Objectification is a no-no. by specialkay18

Recent fame-found actor, Taylor Lautner, says that he beefed up to prove that he is worthy to play the role of Jacob in the Twilight sequel, New Moon. He’s gained over 30 pounds in muscles, and is famous to almost every woman in America! (Not to mention my mom…& me.) He says he worked hard to get this way, but is now uncomfortable having so much attention focused on his body. “I don’t want to be known for my body, but for my acting,” he says. And a large percentage of women, young and old, could beg to differ!

That is my first point in the fact that this world has become overly objectifying! Guys want girls, and girls want guys! But what about the other qualities in a person? What about the movie Jennifer’s Body? I’ve heard a countless number of males jump at the chance to watch that movie, only because of the seductive role Megan Fox plays! Umm…Ew! (LOL!)

Maybe the Middle East has the right idea. I personally encourage the act of covering one’s body head to toe. Most men and women are visually stimulated, so now how are you going to decide whom you want to “befriend” in a woman or man? Although this would be a fashion crisis to all, am I right? Girls, do you like being talked to because your “lady lumps” happened to stand out to this young man more than anyone else’s? And although I doubt many guys will heed this, or take it in offense, do you…(excuse me for stereotyping, but I’m not even going to ask the males because they have too high of a reputation in not caring. [Truly sorry to those of you who are different.])

Yes, we like feeling attractive…but there is always going to be a brighter color in the next rainbow. But…there will never be a shade as unique as the one that reflects your personality. So…objectification, good or bad? Are there times when it can be considered? Do you think we should mind being objectified or pass it as a compliment?

Sticks and Stones by specialkay18

Cursing. Some say they’re just words. Some say they’re horrible, and any who speak them are the same. But are they are they really all that terrible…?

I have no problem with people cussing. I mean, after all, they are just words… Sticks and stones may break my bones, but your words will never hurt me. I truly believe this statement. You might be hurt from someone’s words, but I think it has more to do with “who”, than the “what”.

Others take it very seriously. But…when someone curses, don’t you take what they say a little more seriously? My made-up definition for curse words is: words used to express extreme emotion. I curse when I want to prove a point. Whether I’m mad and want to be left alone, or I’m trying to make my friends laugh, it’s to help describe what I’m getting at.

Some people could care less. (Those would be the ones who curse, 24/7.) I could care less. Maybe these off-limits words are okay for casual speaking.

So why do you think it’s so horrible to cuss, and why is that so? Is there a time and place? Are their reasons for when you can, and reasons when you can’t? Or do you agree with me, and think they’re just words? (But I do think there is a time and a place.) That people make a big deal over the “what” and not the “who”?

SEXUAL ABUSE! by earlyrain1994

Did you know that most women and children who get sexually abused know they’re attacker? Did you know that 1 in 3 kids will be sexually abused by the time their 18? Did you know that not just women are sexually abused? Men are too. Have you ever thought to yourself that your best friend or even the person sitting next to you may have been sexually abused? Have you ever thought to ask? If it was to happen to you would you know what to do? If a friend were to tell you that they were sexually abused would you know what to do or say? Out of 21 people under the age of 18, 7 will be sexually abused by the time they turn 18. Do your part to help prevent this. Listen to them and don’t judge them. It wasn’t their fault!Be there for someone if they need you. Be a TRUE FRIEND and stick by them no matter what. The effects that are left on a person from sexual abuse are horrible. The effects can be suicide, drug problems, alcohol problems, anxiety, fear of being around anyone, poor academics, and acting out.

Family or Foe? by mbgolf

During the Thanksgiving season we think about the things that we are thankful for such as friends, freedom, material things, and most of all family. However this is not the case for some people.

Families all over America are falling apart. Brothers and sisters are turning against each other. Parents are sending their children to their rooms more often. Spouses are turning their backs and looking the other way.

Just recently in Miami, Arnim Ramdass won about $600,000 in a lottery. He thought that he could keep this money for himself and decided not to tell his wife about his winnings. His wife , Donna Campbell, had suspicions and looked into the matter for herself. Donna then found out about his money. She confronted Arnim about his winnings and after he denied ever knowing about the money she sued him for half.

Just one way that families can be broken in a household. Even North Carolina is suffering from family problems.

In Davidson County Andrea Maxwell ,17, has been accused of her mother. Her family is disappointed and turning away from her. One of the other suspects in the stabbing is her boyfriend , Joe Coleman Jr. , who supposedly pushed Andrea’s parents out of her life as he came in. A perfect example of peer pressure, one of the reasons that families are broken today in America.

Take this for another example of peer pressure :

– Kid goes to school and makes new ” friends “.

– Parents think that Kids new ” friends ” are bad for him.

– Kid disagrees and keeps hanging around with the so called ” friends ”

– The ” friends ” get the Kid into trouble but the Kid continues to hang out with them.

– The Parents tell the kid that the ” friends ” are hurting his future but the kid disagrees.

– The Parents and the Kid fight.

( End of the first step to a Broken Household )

Some other reasons that families are falling apart can be abuse, , or alcohol. This is not always from the children either. Many s are causing the problems and making it harder on their kids. The internet is also a controversial subject for many families. You can see about anything on the internet, Point Blank. That is reason enough for most families to have disagreements. So now that you know that American families are falling apart:

How Are You Going To Stop It?

Drinking is Cool. Smoking is even better. I don’t care about what the health teacher says smoking and drinking can do. This can be the typical response of a high school student. Read the passage about why students should think twice about smoking and drinking.

A cigarette is a product consumed via smoking and manufactured out of cured and finely cut tobacco. Cigarettes can cause:

  • Throat Cancer
  • Wrinkled lips
  • Shortage of breathe
  • Emphysema
  • Temperature to drop
  • Dead Brain Cells
  • Surgery
  • Stinky Breath

Marijuana is a that causes damage to the brain and lungs. Many people who have taken it have been diagnosed with Psychosis. Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is the main psychoactive substance in the cannabis plant (marijuana). The levels of THC in sold in the United States rose from 3.5% in 1988 to 7%in 2003 and 8.6% in 2006. It is an illegal in the United States, if you don’t have any health issues, such as glaucoma.

An alcoholic beverage is a drink containing ethanol, commonly known as alcohol. The concentration of alcohol in a drink may be specified in percent alcohol by volume (ABV) in percent, or in proof. In the United States the “proof” of measurements corresponds in a 2:1 ration to percent alcohol content by volume at 60 degrees Fahrenheit.

Drinking causes serious health issues. It causes your brain to mess up and get holes. It is the second leading cause of in the United States. If you smoke or drink I think that now would be a good time to stop.

Governor Bob Riley of Alabama, has granted Thomas Arthur a 45-day stay of , and Thomas is asking to use this time for DNA testing of the evidence to prove his innocence. The Innocence Project, which was established to represent inmates seeking DNA testing, like Arthur, has asked Governor Riley to allow the DNA testing to take place, before Arthur’s , set for December 6th.

“As we have said before, we do not have a position on whether Thomas Arthur is guilty or . Our concern is that biological evidence may exist that could be subjected to DNA testing and prove whether or not he is guilty. The victim’s wife in this case was convicted of ing her husband and then changed her story; DNA testing could show that she changed her story only to get out of prison sooner, and that in fact someone other than Thomas Arthur committed this crime.”-The Innocence Project

The United States has carried out about 1,099 s since judicial resumed here in 1977. More than 100 wrongful convictions in capital cases in the USA have been discovered since 1977. DNA testing has played a key role in many of these cases.

IF WE CAN WORK TOGETHER TO INVENT OUR BEST WHY CAN’T WE WORK TOGETHER ON EVERYTHING ELSE? by mbgolf

What do you think are some of the best inventions of 2007 ???

PHOTO-ILLUSTRATION FOR TIME BY ARTHUR HOCHSTEIN

Recently TIME MAGAZINE published an issue that was entitled

” The Best Inventions Of 2007 “. In the issue they went on to tell you the top inventions of 2007. Some of which were the iPHONE ( #1 ), The Boeing 787 Dreamliner, The Bio-Suit, Subtitle Glasses, Digital 3-D, the HITS Helmet, SKIN Probes, and the PowerFoot One. The inserts went on to say what the products did and the ways they are useful.

Just think about all of the people who worked to build these amazing machines….

People from all around the world decided to band together and try to help people. People of different ethnicities and races. People from drastically different religious beliefs. If only we could all have this mentality when it comes to everything else.

If nations could come together and eliminate war. If students around the globe put forth the effort to make their schools free. If different races could see that the differences they have could actually bring them closer together. If we could all just get along….

We don’t yet but some are trying to.

In the current TIME Magazine issue there is a column that was titled ” Exposure “.

Current Issue

It was on how the Islamic societies and Western societies are trying to get along but since we are so different it makes this difficult.

They focused on the difference between what we, the Western societies, and what they, the Islamic societies, display in public. WE display bare bodies and uality in public and don’t think twice while THEY display religious activities such as praying and don’t think twice. WE think that praying should be kept inside while THEY believe that uality should be kept inside. Our practices and theirs are completely different but we still try to come together and work as one.

If everyone could try as hard to get along as they do to make helpful machines or the latest gadget then don’t you think that the world could be a more peaceful place?
